MOvember 2013: DAY THIRTY

Day 30, the final 24hrs of MOvember 2013. It all ends tonight, and I will be sad to say goodbye to the hairy caterpillar that has been sat upon my upper lip for the last 30 days.

I think I’ve seen more MO Bros this year than in 2012, which is obviously great and I’m sure will be the case next year. If you grew a MO this year, let me just simply say “well done and give yourself a pat on the back.”

Today’s FINAL MOPhoto for 2013 is a homage to that classic bathroom scene in the 1960 thriller by British-born director Alfred Hitchcock. But the outcome of this scene ends with a little less dread. It’s only the MO that ends up deceased.

Raising funds and awareness of men’s health is the true reason for MOvember and I just hope that I’ve done my bit for the cause.

“It’s been emotional”

MOustaches in the news

Last year 82.2% of the funds raised by MOvember was committed to programmes supporting prostate cancer and testicular cancer initiatives.

Movember’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health. Three of the biggest health issues facing men that the charity supports are prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.

The four key programmes that MOvember invest in are awareness and education, living with and beyond cancer and staying mentally healthy. Finally research into various health issues effecting men supported by the charity.

Famous MOustaches

Fu Manchu

Fu Manchu

Although a work of fiction, Dr. Fu Manchu’s renowned moustache is known far and wide. Manchu first appeared in British author Sax Rohmer’s The Mystery of Dr. Fu-Manchu (1913) and since then has gone on to appear in various films, television, radio and comic books.

A master criminal, Fu Manchu’s murderous plots often involved guns or explosives plus henchmen and natural chemical weapons.

Fu Manchu’s on-screen debut came in The Mystery of Dr. Fu Manchu (1923), Christopher Lee got the chance to play the character in The Face of Fu Manchu (1965).

This university educated criminal mastermind has become an archetype of the evil criminal genius.

Dr. Fu Manchu sports the original ‘Fu Manchu’ moustache – long, downward pointing ends, generally beyond the chin.
